vOLUNTEER for Bar and Usher

Roy Lewis – Usher and Studio Bar Volunteer

Roy began volunteering at the Regal soon after lockdown, wanting to get back into the habit of doing more, looking for opportunities to be more active in the community. He was introduced to the Regal by a close family member and decided to apply to volunteer straight away after watching a film and speaking to the Front of House on shift.

Starting off as an Usher, Roy now also enjoys volunteering in the Studio Bar and it was here that he has made lifelong friends. Friends who took him abroad for the first time and who have given him the confidence to book many more holidays since and pursue a love of travel he didn’t know he had!

Since volunteering at the Regal, Roy’s confidence has grown and fulfils his wish to give back to the community and in turn gaining a sense of belonging. He has a lot of fun working with volunteers and meeting members of the public when on shift, really enjoying when customers start to recognise him and enjoying conversations that flow from that.

Roy was born and grew up in Eastham and now lives locally in Tenbury. In his past he worked for the Fire Department in Tenbury and now you can find Roys friendly face when you visit Tenbury’s Tesco, still providing an active service to the community.

To anyone thinking of volunteering, Roy says “Give it a go! You will meet so many friendly people; volunteers, staff and customers and you will get on with everyone as they are all so friendly. It also helps the Tenbury community and keeps the Regal going”.
